SAX APPEAL

ABOUT

With a line-up of five saxophonists and a world-class rhythm section, Sax Appeal (who celebrated 40 years of performances in 2018) is a unique, multi-award winning band performing diverse compositions and arrangements by Derek Nash.

From its origins as the sax and rhythm section of Stockport Schools Stagesound (winning the National Festival of Youth - small band category - and appearing at the Royal Albert Hall for the Schools Prom), the band was reformed in London where it became a busy touring band performing 100s of concerts throughout the UK.   Festival appearances included Brecon, Cork and Marciac and they also undertook a British Council tour of Venezuela.
The band has won the John Dankworth Award and also a British Jazz Award (small group).

The band has featured the cream of UK sax players in its ranks and on its CDs including Gary Plumley, Bob McKay, Alan Barnes, Vasilis Xenopoulos, Matt Wates, Simon Allen, Duncan Eagles, Brandon Allen, Mornington Lockett, Scott Garland, Simon Bates, Nigel Hitchcock, Dave O'Higgins, Paul Booth and Tim Garland, supported by the top rhythm section of Phil Scragg (bass), Mike Bradley (drums) and Pete Adams (keys).
